WANJIKU’S PAIN IN THE……?

Caesar,to whom you must advance his pound of flesh, inform of tax, like an ogre which may have known you is always mindful not to feed on you by just one huge gulp but by bits by bits. That way you live long enough to satiate his hunger. And guarantee the very ogre survival.
For a time now nothing much have been on citizen lips but the new unveiled taxation which have put paraffin past the hundred bob.How pray shall we, the hewer of wood and drawers of water survive this throat splitting taxation?
I say so(listen to this young man) because as one among the bottom of pyramid feeders-grass feeders as opposed to top of pyramid meat eaters-I slave on someone garden in order to earn a 3 hundred wage. That is not enough for 3 litres of paraffin, yet I haven’t bought a packet of Maize flour.
I have a family of five,do the maths, begged the young but tired looking man as sweat dropped on his face.I smelt the distress he was in.How and when did we get into this hole.
There is no doubt that the Cabinet secretary for finance his spilt his hair to square a round circle. His budget is in deficit. He looked around and with the help of I.M.F from whom he need some coins in order to stabilize the shilling, they came with a jackpot of an idea, put V.A.T on petroleum product and collect a cool 75 billion.
Put it at 16%.Let them rant and heigh ho.Then bring it at down by half. They shall all be clappy happy for the sizeable fall in percentage not realizing that by such a cut we have hovered by our target. And so it unfolded.
The top 1% was not left uncut, a 1.5% of their salary shall fill the coffers for affordable housing. These are the big five who earn 100,000   Bob and over.Men and women who warm their swimming pool.
let us all pay the cash for nothing is certain in life but taxes and death. For now now one has been taxed to a point of departure to the other world where no traveller ever return from. Kudos to authority.
For a time in this blog,in an article herein,I once pleaded with President Uhuru to make fighting corruption his fifth pillar  on top of the stated four. The fight is now on.Corrupt mandarin are no longer having easy sleep. They are soiling their pants.
I too advocated that it is better to have Raila inside the tent than outside. Now unlike the proverbial camel he not only started by having his nose and then face in, but by shoving his whole body in.
Now let us come to what is pinching us and punching us down the canvas. To pay tax is patriotic but all the loopholes, the president should see to it that they are all sealed.
We know of hair dressers who having nothing better to buy with their loot in order to carry their ill gotten money with dignity, ferried they cash with gunny bags. Was that money which was stocked in octopus like account frozen and brought back to Wanjku?
We know of land transactions which smell as fishy as omena and which were cashed on record time.Public money is leaking like sieve.
We know of auditor general reports which years in,years out, point to hemorrhage of public purse till it pulse rate is compromised and feeble ,almost to zero.If all the money pointed as lost was to be recovered at least going back  10 years, how much money would we have in our coffers.
For the country to develop ,the citizen needs to bite the bullet, but corruption should not be seen to be the norm. The dragon which feeds on the poor. And it has vociferous appetite.
The country need electrical connectivity to each and every hub,but the same utility firm spreading the web of electric should not have it fingers in the cookie jar.Watch how it top management team was thrown into the long arm of the law.
Corruption I mean and meant is our undoing. If their is anything the country can learn from China apart from running the S.G.R is how to deal ruthlessly and unflinching-without batting an eyelid-with corrupt entities.
Life long sentences, for our law books forbid public execution.Much as I decried this damning taxation, many have pleaded with me to have a long look in contrast to the short term outlook at the benefit the country will gain by  this taxed money. The country will fly to upper middle income one, they tell me.
I have my huge reservation. I for one, knows a friend who have perfected the Art of filling some holes of debts only to be left with a deep gaping hole.Would you place your money on him to be wealthy in a near future?
We seems to be a house hold run on whims by the finance Mandarins.
Money get in but there are so many outlets which the occupants of the house cannot exactly put a finger on,cant find the holed pockets. They may feast on exotic food on payday, build a fish pod where no water flow, and the culture is averse to fish.
But by the third day of month the house find itself short of foodstuff and is forced to survive on crumbs.
Hold hour breadth.A minute. The country will accumulate nearly sh.2.13 trillion in national debt by 2022.This is a debt you must pay.Tax money do it.In 2013 the public debt was at 1.89 trillion. Fast forward to 2018,and we have hit 5.04 trillion mark.
What this mean is that much of the money collected by taxman will go towards rehabilitating this debt.we are looking at deep black hole of debt which is squeezing every bit of cash from the economy.
We need to stop digging… cut down the number of representatives,do away with massive number of nominated M.PS,MCAs,and seats like women rep.Even the counties should be reduced, amalgamated to economically making sense units. All these add on are bankrupting the country purse.
What else one lip then should not preach austerity while the other lip is feasting from corrupted meat.Perception is the key.You don’t shout from the mountain top that all corrupt must carry their own cross while you paint the market red with cash from dubious source.
The starting gun must first smoke out false narrative and a false impression.Only  then  can we go for the hard fight, drown the corrupt and throw the keys into the deepest trench of the ocean.
